Originally hailing from Texas, USA, this 1965 VW 13-window Deluxe Split Screen has quite a journey under its belt. After a Door-mobile pop-top retrofit in the UK, it found its way to Mallorca. Don’t let his age fool you – Fin is packed with a brand new 1835cc Performance Engine, ready for new adventures!
Fin has been a labor of love for the CQM family over the past few years, especially after the sad passing of his owner. It’s with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell as he goes up for sale. Here’s a glimpse of the works we’ve completed:
Engine Overhaul:
- Brand New AS41 Magnesium Case, drilled and tapped for full flow oil system
- Brand new steel-backed main bearings and double thrust camshaft bearings
- Brand New CB Performance Chromoly 69mm counter-weighted crankshaft, 8 dowel
- Brand new equalizer steel crankshaft pulley
- Original VW flywheel 8 dowelled and fully balanced with crankshaft rotating assembly
- Brand New CB Performance 5.4” Forged 4340 Chromoly Unitech I-beam connecting rods
- Brand new Engle W100 Camshaft with CB performance adjustable straight cut camshaft gears dialed in for perfect advance
- Brand new Engle Hi-Performance lifters
- Brand new CB Performance 3/8” Aluminium Super Duty Pushrods, cut to length for correct valve geometry
- Brand new 041 Cylinder heads with chromoly valves, heavy-duty valve springs and valve spring retainers
- Brand new SCAT bolt-up rocker shafts paired with stock rocker arms machined, clearanced and fitted with 8mm SCAT swivel ball valve adjusters
Additional Upgrades:
- CSP rocker covers with AN breather outlets
- CSP external oil filter housing with K&N HP3001 oil filter and AN fittings
- External fan-assisted oil cooler pack fed via a thermostatic sandwich plate and fan controlled by an inline thermostatic switch
- Facet “Silver Top” electric fuel pump; installed with CSP safety cut-off relay and dashboard bypass switch for easy starting; and Malpassi Fuel King inline filter/pressure regulator
- Professionally rebuilt Dual Dellorto 40 Carburetors choked and jetted correctly for engine size (Eurocarb.co.uk)
- CSP Bell crank carburetor linkage
- CB Performance inlet manifolds and air filter assemblies
- 123 electronic ignition distributor with Pertronix flame thrower chrome coil and 8mm Pertronix Flamethrower HT Leads
- CB Performance oil filler/Breather tower
- All breather hoses and oil lines are heavy-duty stainless braided with reinforced synthetic nitrile hose
- All fuel lines are stainless braided Teflon hose
- CSP Python exhaust system with big bore CSP heat exchangers
Braking System:
- Empi front disc brake kit backed up by a dual circuit remote servo
- Swing axle conversion with larger Type 3 rear brakes
Cool and Stylish:
- 6 new C&C aluminium and chromed pop-out windows and glass
- Original front windscreen Safari windows
- Fully chromed Porsche style Fuch aluminium wheels, 5.5” x 15” front and rear
- Full set of Autometer gauges in a bespoke stainless dashboard housing
- Upholstered front seats
- Pair of front and rear top-quality chrome US spec bumpers
- Full deluxe belt line trim
